Chapter of the Union of Our Lady of Charity

Carrollton – 2007

14th, 15th and 16th July.

The whole of the 14th was spent electing our Congregational Leader. At the beginning of the afternoon Sister Angela Fahy was re-elected for a second mandate. Afterwards there was some rest time followed by some nibbles and drinks. The day ended with celebratory prayer time which was full of symbols : Sister Angela’s profession of faith – very deeply rooted in our Eudist spirituality-, a blessing including the 4 elements of nature and what they symbolize in relation to the service that we offer and finally a brief intervention of each of the groups of life to express our trust in the person who has accepted to guide us so that all together we can put into practice the future vision of this Chapter.

We spent most of the 15th discerning to elect the team which will be working closely with Angela for the life and mission of the Union. We also had time to take a look at the documents prepared by the commissions over recent years: our identity card (the Mission Commission); “The call to form Jesus in us” (the Formation Commission) and a leaflet prepared by the Spirituality Commission entitled “Mary - woman and image of God” which for the time being is only available in English.

On the morning of the 16th we elected the three members of the central team: Berta Alicia Alvídrez I (Mexico), Annick Egu (France) and Josefina López A. (Mexico).
Eucharist was the moment chosen by the central team to present to the Lord their disposition to serve the Union. The weaving symbol came to the fore once again as an indication of the relationship that the four members of the team want to have with the whole of the Union, the Church and the world.
In the afternoon we did the final revision of some documents before getting the Chapter to vote on their approval. These included: the financial report, the text on the Common Fund and the first draft of the “Declaration from the Members of the Carrollton Chapter” which summarises the basic direction for the coming years.

And as a perfect finish, a party was organised and was attended by all the people in the house who were free. As always, it was a time of great creativity and much happiness.
