Chapter of the Union of Our Lady of Charity
Carrollton - 2007
17th, 18th and 19th July.
As we had worked so hard on the 16th, the 17th was declared a holiday. Several people made use of the time to go to the sales and went shopping to New Philadelphia, a town about 30 minutes from Carrollton. Others preferred to stay put and take a rest before moving on to the final stage of the Chapter.
On the 18th there was some voting to be done, namely the ratification of the start of a process with the Good Shepherd sisters and the support given by our Chapter to the prospect of the NAU joining our Union after their Chapter in 2008.
During a discussion period we also recalled the importance of continuing contact with the Mexican Federation and the houses in Dallas and Hot Springs.
And after a journey of almost three weeks, on the 19th we arrived at the Chapter’s closing day.
The “Chapter Declaration” expressing both the spirit of everything that has happened in this meeting and the direction for the up-coming six years, was accepted by all the Chapter members.
Straight afterwards, and after having thanked everybody, since we have received so much and experienced so much, it was time for the final Eucharist. Once again on this occasion it was the symbols that spoke: the world which we are heading towards, the tapestry which our work has woven and where each of us has left a sign of her will to carry on working on the project/vision of the Union and to make dreams become reality over the coming six years.
A parable from the Bible summarizes very well the spirit in which each one of us is returning to her country:
“This is what Yaweh asks of you, only this: to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God”
(Mi 6, 8)
