Chapter of the Union of Our Lady of Charity
Carrollton – 2007
Sunday, 8th July
Today, the Chapter welcomed four sisters from the Good Shepherd: Sister Brigid Lawlor, congregational leader, Armelle Dehennault General Councillor, Marie Pierre Pernot, Provincial of France and Yvette Arnold, Provincial of New York.
They were joined by 2 sisters from the independent community of Hot Springs - Sister Gérard and Sister Thomas.
For the first of our three days of meetings with the Good Shepherd, the Central Committee had decided to offer the delegates the possibility of listening first hand to the dialogue proposed in June 2006 in Angers during the international session on reconciliation. This dialogue was prepared using the experiences and texts entitled “a dialogue without reconciliation” between Marie-Victoire Houette and Marie-Euphrasie Pelletier. Despite the fact that both of them had entered Our Lady of Charity brimming with zeal for the mission, their paths separated with the foundation of Angers and the founding of the Generalate of the Good Shepherd. Sister Marie-Françoise played the role of Marie-Victoire and Sister Marie-Pierre Pernot the role of Marie-Euphrasie. Father Gérard Leconte played the role of John Eudes and Sister Yvette Arnold narrated the story.
After such a moving presentation, the delegates were able to take some time to internalise this experience, before celebrating the Eucharist. The afternoon was spent in the exchange of reactions and queries that had emerged as a result of the dialogue between Marie-Victoire and Marie-Euphrasie. On several occasions the importance of both understanding history at the same time as taking into consideration our present-day life was highlighted. This exchange will continue over the coming days.
